Welding diffs

Just want to know if anyone has done it before. I do drive my jeep on the street sometimes but it is mainly a spare vechicle. I trail it more but do drive it on the road.

tons of people have, I don't think you will like it on the street. I would recommend a lunchbox locker. The locker would be a lot kinder of the pavement.

Thanks for the info, I just can find lockers for the price I want to pay, so I'm thinking about welding them. Just concerned about them breaking.

dont be hard on the skinny pedel. i plan to do the same to my rear then finding a used lunchbox locker for the front. who cares how hard it will be on the street if you mainly trail is and dont daily it i say weld away.

If you do weld the spiders just make sure you ONLY weld the spiders. Do not weld the center pin or the gears to the carrier. Also make sure to protect the r&p from any splatter.

Google home brew dana 30 posi... There is a few good write ups about converting your vacuum disconnects to pull cord.. Thats my next project

Thanks guys, now to my next point I know I have a Dana 35 in the front and I was told I have a Dana 30 in the rear, but after doing some research I think I have a 8.25.

sgtskid Jan 22, 2011 01:06 PM

you mean dana 30 in front and 35 in the rear. If you have the 35 in the rear and you weld it you are just asking to break something. The 8.25 would be a little better. Depending on year you either have a 27 or 29 spline.

U have a d30 up front and either a d35 or 8.25 in the rear. Someone has a pic of them side by side on here. Just do a search you'll probly find it. I think the 35 is more rounded and the 8.25 has a sort of square look to it

Ah sgtskid u beat me

dschneider Jan 22, 2011 01:34 PM

Yeah sorry, d30 up front. I have a 1994 Cherokee country. It's an auto

is a launcherboxes a spool locker...? how dependable are they? which ones are good? the prices look good to me under $450 for a lock right lockers and other similair lockers... im going do be doing the same with my jeep. im going to daily drive it now and again. but i like to go tail riding but hardly any rock climbing mainly trails and some mud....

or would it be easier to geta 8.25 and weld the spider gears in it......
