you should proly check out the expedition trailer section over on expedition portals there are some very knowlageable peeps over there .. its a cool idea ya got and it has been done but you gotta get the balance right or its not gonna tow well .. i think the rear wheels would have to be moved forward if your gonna use a the 2 door and cut it off at the firewall might be better to make it shorter to balance it .. .. but im no expert either.. i would like to see this done .. then mount a roof top tent on it

If you follow the basic 60/40 rule of trailering it should tow just fine. 60% of the wieght needs to be forward of the trailers axle to avoid trailer sway.Cool idea, I wish I had the means to build something like this.

wow i'm truly amazed someone else has thought of this... i have actually started to make one almost like your idea except mine is only cut down to the firewall... so all doors are intact for easy form and seal....

i picked up a 98 cherokee beginning of last summer (front end accident, frame rails in front were shot)

gonna lift it and paintit to match my trail runner.. (lol possibly matching roof-rack and lights just to throw people off)

stripped it out and layed down wood for storage and left all speakers and dash board intact (plans on battery and etc.. for stereo and possibly LCD flat screen monitor for movies........

and yes i've thought about tongue weight cuz thats a lot of "trailer" in front of the axle so i will install a water cell where the gas tank would be and use it as a multi-source for water and at the same time counter-balance the rest of the jeep....
let me know if ya got any questions about doing this

I chopped up a couple Cherokees real quick.

The long distance XJ camper.

The Overnighter.
My photo hacking skills suck.

tandem axles might be pretty tough to maneuver.

Also have to remember that XJ only has a 5000LB towing capacity too.
