Slanted metal hard top

Well I've started to make a hard top out of 14 gauge sheet metal. Here's how far I am, should be done by this weekend.

Very interesting concept. I like it. Is it gonna be removable? Totally enclosed? Are you gonna reinforce the slanted portion? Does the jeep have any structural support now that you chopped it?

It's actually gonna be welded to the body, and as soon as it's done I plan to make a roll cage for support

I agree with wonders, I love the concept. However, I would reinforce the cap and make it removable, with bolt holes to make it easy to remove/replace. One big reason is that you'll need access to the back and inside to do proper cage work. Just my .02

Or at least make it openable. Kind of like a hatch back or like the humvees.

Cool, but a lot more work...I'm a fan of keep it simple

I'll have plenty of access through the tail gate area, and can go through the back seat. I don't plan to put anything back there except speakers and maybe a fuel cell

What is the benefit of cutting the hatch off and replacing it with sheet metal at a slant?

Wasn't really the plan when I cut it off.... planned to move the hatch up to then back seats and have a small bed in the back. But the I figured I'd do something Completely different

That's why I feel it should be removable. Best of both worlds.

If the rollcage is interior and not exo, youll want to do that first

Cage it before you close it in. You'll thank yourself in the long run

looking good man, any updates? I did this on my 94 zj and welded it too the body. I used square tube to support it around the hatch. if you have any questions feel free to ask. took the taillights out so I didnt smash them on the trail.
