Default roof rack out of aluminium tubing.

I had some old aluminium framing from a projection screen used for concerts and big meetings. I have cut it down and sized it up.... Just don't know how to weld. When putting team together for screen they used rivet's to put it together. I think I might go the same way seeming this is a BUDGET BUILD! Will try to post pics and see what happens.

Anybody can weld it just depends on whether you want it to be pretty or not. I myself prefer a strong weld over a pretty weld. Northern tool has a arc welder for 99.99. I am definitely interested to know how it turns out though.

Ok so after all the procrastination, i have finally finished my $30.00 roof rack. Now its not pretty but it will get the job done. my whole truck is like this seeming im on a budget. No time to shine when all im gonna do is get dirty anyways!! Went to Menards got some angle brakets, nuts, bolts and assembled it all together. Took the stock roof rack cross bars off and left just the mounts. after a little paint and u bolts to secure it.... its done!!

future mods to rack is to put sky jack, shovel and some lights.

Thanks people! It weights about 35lbs. It's light but very sturdy.

I used 5/16x1-1/2 hex bolt.

I used 1" square aluminum tubing, but this was supplied by work (scrap).
