Default Roof Rack!!

Alright so i got a 2000 xj sport 4dr. I am making a roof rack in school. It is ok if i use the 10 stock screw holes from the stock luggage rack. And I noticed there is a slight arch on the jeep. Could i Put a flat roof rack on there?

You are taking the rails off that run the length of the roof? you would be better off making mounts for the drip rails. If I built one, I would leave the main rails on the jeep, set the rack on that, and make the roof rack mounts to fasten to them or the drip rails.

Yakima makes very nice roof rack attachments for the stock horizontal rails and also for the gutter. You might beable to grab a pair at a junk yard.

i just mounted mine with ubolts to the stock luggage rails and when they pulled out i took some aluminium peices and bolted into the rack and screwed them to the drip rails works great no movement at all. but that's just me.

Yeah, just try using some U-bolts that's what I did for mine and works great. Had to cinch them up a bit though because of the bow in the cross members. If those eventually break though I like the idea of those hook bolts and some brackets...

2 bolts one on the front rail and the rear rail is strong enough for any rack unless its a 100 pound cast iron fabricated rack. just 2 bolts.
