Removable Door help
So, I when I bought my jeep the doors, all 4, had already been made removable. Problem is, that there is a tiny pin in the door, and to take it out I am going to have to cut it out...somehow. I was thinking a cutting blade on my grinder or just grind off the top and hammer it out. Anyway, I want to put a quick release pin on there, or something. If that is a generally good idea for this let me know, and if anyone knows the size of the pin that would help to. If there is something else I should do, let me know as well.
Here is a pic of the hinge http://i530.photobucket.com/albums/d...eep/Hinges.jpg |
If you are talking about the pin right above the wire gromit thing then no don't cut that just pop it out, but i have though about getting new ones with rings so i can just pull intead of tap out but either way it will have to be tapped back in because if it is too loose the door will pop (really loud) and might break the pin eventually. If your talking about the other pins on the hinges themselves, once you disconect the wires and pull through and remove the pin in the door catch (the first pin i was talking about) then lift up the doors. I usually roll all four windows down because when you remove the drivers door none of the windows work. Then I grab by the bottom near the hinges and the handle on the outside.

if you are talking about what BLACKSPORT is talking about, the thing over the wires.. I dont even use mine. Pop out the pin and just push it back into the door.. careful to let the wind pull the door open hard though..
also, there are quick disconnects for all the wires behind the kickplates for the front, I dont know about the back b/c I drive a 2 door.. Good Luck!! |
the rear have them too but they're so low they're just a pain so i extended those wires so the disconnects were in reaching distance

thats your door helper dude. jus take a hammer and tap it our from the bottom. then when it gets to where you cant git it with the hammer anymore use a phillips head and put it on the bottom of the pin and tap on the screwdriver til the pin pops out

by the way does anyone know how to put that damned pin back in? i cant get the bar to extend from the door to put the pin back
|
So if I use the method Sno_Blynd said they will come out and I can push that flat steel bar into the door, as trapper said, and not have to worry about it ever? Just want to be sure, and thanks for all the help.
|
Sno_Blynd just start the pin like usual or use a screw driver with the door closed enough then open the door and it will be extended once again.

tried that cant get my hand in that small of a gap

I grab mine with needle nose vice grips, and pull it out --There are 2 detentes that you have to get the stop past, then you will be able to get it reattached to the a-pillar. Don,t leave it unhooked as it prevents the door from opening too far, and peeling the hinge off of the a-pillar!!!
|
tried that and it sucked em back up

Sounds like the spring loaded roller is broke! You can hold it out and lock it with another pair of vice grips next to the door, or hit the salvage yard for a new to you set of stoppers. The dealership will also gladly molest your wallet.
