Rear Bumper Finally!
 

Finally finished my DBO diy rear bumper. 5 weeks ive worked on this thing every chance i could. I am a newbie welder and did all this with my Handler 140 so hopefully it doesn't fall off or apart:mellow:
Ordered the mohave diy kit a while ago and then decided i wanted the diy tire carrier also so ordered it up. Fwiw mine came set up for a cut and fold so i had to make new rear supports and a few other pieces. It also came with a bear claw type latch instead of the pop pin style i had seen and assumed it came with so i ordered 2 of those on ebay. I went to the steel yard and picked up 1.5 tube, 1.5x3" tube and a 2'x2' plate of 3/16 for my ladder project. I duplicated some of the swing arm pieces and used a comp4x4 dual shear hinge for the ladder. Enough yapping here are pics. Wow, that's pretty badass. Double swing outs. I'd love to have that but it's DIY only and I'm not equipped for welding. Looks awesome man!

Well i really liked the slee offroad land cruiser bumpers and ive got a JCR roof rack on order so the ladder will help accessing it.

That explains it. Looks great. Really does. How much of a PITA is it opening the two swing outs to get in the back hatch? I'm in process of building a rear bumper tire carrier for my 90, that's why I'm asking all the questions.

Thanks man. Not a big pita really the tire carrier has to be opened first and the ladder shut first because there is overlap of the tire and its only a 31". While i was building it i didn't take into account the bend in the ladder so i did have to cut out a little of the side hinge brace so it would swing further. This is the first big thing ive ever welded/built so there was a lot of trial and error.

That is pretty sweet, man! I am also going to be getting a roof rack, and ladder is a good idea. I'm thinking of going a different route with a ladder though...a swing DOWN with hinges on the bumper, with latches on the roof rack...and then put some kind of steel mesh behind the ladder rungs, spaced inward so I can still get my feet on the rungs. When up and latched to the roof, its a ladder. When swung down to the ground, its a ramp so my German Shepherds can get in and out of the lifted XJ a whole lot more easily...lol! I would put the ladder on the driver's side so I can see when backing up...and the spare on the passenger side, as far over as possible and still not block the tail light. I run 33s.

Thanks for dragging this one back up to the top Kev. I forgot about this one. Excellent execution. How is it holding up? Have you bounced it down any trails yet? Any issues? Any things you would've/going to change? I STILL haven't put a tire carrier on mine. Still waffling on what I'm going to do.

Honestly I've been too busy lately I have only put about 500 miles on the Jeep since the rear bumper. No big trails or anything. Im starting to slow down a bit and the weather is finally not to hot to do anything so once I get some off road time in I'll report back.
