raised 2x6 rockers into the doors

well I searched and didn't really find a set of rockers tied in exactly the way I wanted. so I guess I'll just start hacking up my rockers and post pics as I go
I want to raise the 2x6 rockers into the doors so I can have some ultra fancy high clearance armor

I've already cut the driver side I'll post pics soon

PocketsEmpty 12-17-2013 01:12 PM

Are you going to trim the bottom of the doors? There was a guy over on naxja that did that iirc

Atmos 12-17-2013 01:25 PM

yeah I already trimmed the doors. theres one guy on here who did it as well buy he didnt tie to the frame
if you have any link post them here so I have something to reference. I'll still post my fabrication

I'm not at a place where I can post pics right now but here is a link to my build on Pirate from a few years ago. It's exactly what you are talking about. They are 2x6 and are tied to the frame in 4 places on each side by 2x2. There are a lot of pics in the build thread. I've since doved and tubed the front and put it on coilovers. I have a tread on that too.

I've checked out your threads a lot. I guess I will end up doing mine like yours. I wanted to keep the factory seatbelt mounts and I still have a B pillar to mess with but oh well it's a rock crawler. thanks for the ideas

got the 2x6 welded on. I hate sheet metal welding -_- but it's on there

this whole thing ended up being more straight forward than I thought. so this I guess this wont be a very writeuppy thread. but if you have any questions feel free

Attachment 331339

nice and level

Attachment 331340

at least the doors cover the welds

Attachment 331341

I'm happy enough. stay tuned for frame tie-ins

That's sick! That's almost exactly how I've been planning to do mine. Except I was going to weld a piece of flat iron to the door sill, and then weld the 2x6 to that with a piece of angle iron on the inside rocker. Did you weld anything up on the underside?

thank you! no I opted against welding any more. save myself the torture of trying to stitch up more sheet metal. 2x3 3/16" thick frame tie-ins will suffice plenty

and possibly boatsides. we'll see

PocketsEmpty 12-20-2013 02:06 AM

So how sturdy is it now being just welded to the door sill, and did you cut the pinch seam?

Sorry for all the questions haha

Atmos 12-20-2013 02:20 AM

which pinch seem theres like 7 haha. yeah I cut through a couple. a mistake I wont make when I do the other side. if you're talking about the rear fender well, yes that will get cut out later

it's actually pretty sturdy just the way it is, since it's tied directly into the B pillar as well. but bash it on a couple rocks and I'm sure the sheet metal will buckle. just like it did on my last jeep

Looks like it sticks out further than mine by a hair. I didn't trim back the floor sheet metal as much so my doors don't cover up my welds :(

Looks nice though. You have a good little start with this Jeep.

bulrid8 12-20-2013 05:23 AM

Looks good.

Next time refrain from writing your personal thoughts on the rockers!

HS00XJ 12-20-2013 05:59 AM

did you tack weld the front fenders or how are they secured?
