Narrowed dog house

Just as the title states the plan is to narrow the dog house on a 90 xj. The rear has already been chopped and dovetailed and I was really happy with the results so now I'm going to attempt to do the same to the front. As you can see not much fab work has started yet. Rite now the goal is to clean up the engine bay and remove anything that is not useful so I can make room for a smaller engine compartment. I have relocated the battery to inside the cab and Hidden inside the center console, I will also relocate a fuse block and a master kill switch inside there too. I have removed the mechanical engine fan and will be running dual electric fans. This solves two things, one I will have control over the fans when water crossing and this allows the radiator to sit back a couple more inches so the mount for the winch will not stick out so far ( this is one of the main reasons I started this project, the original bumper I built was cool but it hindered approach angles sometimes. So if the winch can sit back a little further then it did I'm happy). I am also relocating and upgrading the transmission cooler so it is no longer in the way in the front. The fenders will be a combination of tube work and parts of the original fenders. The green tape in the pic will be were the major narrowing will be.

Kinda like Bleepinjeep's xj? Seems simple enough. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

The build has been going a lil slow lately but I managed to knock out a new crossmember today. The old one had taken a beating so I tried to beat it back straight and add some strength to it.

I started the bumper today. I'm going with a short one so not to hurt approach angle. It will be big enough to mount the winch on and that's about it. I'll post more pics as it progresses

Here are some pics of the recent work. I wasn't able to narrow the front as much as I originally wanted because I decided to run some round headlights ( real jeeps have round headlights so I'm told). It's still close to the look I'm after though. The front bumper for the most part is finished except maybe a very small stinger just large enough to protect the winch. I'm still toying with adding some more tubing for the fenders but the jury is still out.

That is a great fab and your work looks top rate!
I'm still sweet on rectangular head lights. Gotta admit that unit in your hand is nice and would be good to aim after mounting.
Look forward to more of your build.

Just noticed, Miamisburg, Ohio.
Midwest Fasteners is a valued supplier to us out of that local.
Small world for a big build.

I know right where they are at, about 3 mins from my house.

I have gotten a few things done recently. I redid my tube fenders ( wasn't crazy how the first ones turned out) I installed the hood pins and mounted up the headlights and grill.
