just spray painted for now, when the floors are fixed im gonna bedline everything, no carpet either, but the floor will be one hell of a project

Grayguy 02-01-2011 01:42 AM

Looks like a decent start. I'll be doing this soon, but I plan on cutting the doors up as high as I can with the windows still working, patch those, then that will set the height of how high up I can cut my rockers/sills.

Jason95xj 02-01-2011 01:48 AM

yeah i didnt really wanna get into it that much my welding sucks, an the floors are next, i think ill just get whole new pans, theyre preetty nasty

Jason95xj 02-01-2011 01:49 AM

be careful when you weld, the jeep metal will burn right away

Grayguy 02-01-2011 02:01 AM

Im not new to welding/fabbing, just XJ's so I'm not too worried about it, but I should probably go out and buy a different spool, the .035 I usually run probably won't make it any easier.

Jason95xj 02-01-2011 02:05 AM

yeah i was gettin to much wire, i couldnt control how big the bead got

Grayguy 02-01-2011 02:14 AM

What kind of setup are you running? Overhead is by far the hardest way to weld for me. The miller180 I have hates doing it, but the miller210 at work does a lot better for some reason.

Jason95xj 02-01-2011 10:13 AM

its a miller wire feed, think its 210, i dont know a whole lot just teaching myself ha

can you explain more into detail where/how high up you cut out the stock rockers? im looking at doing the exact same thing b not getting into the doors.

looking good

biggoofy 02-12-2011 06:11 PM

Looks like a good start I run .23 for sheet metal seems to work great I use the .35 for the thicker metals. How are these being tied into the structure of the jeep?

Lightfoot 02-13-2011 08:01 AM

When I did mine I used 3"x6" 3/16" wall tube for my rockers. It helps to keep mud from flying into the jeep.

When I did my floors I bought some repair panels. If I ever do it again I would just get some 14 ga or 16 ga flat steel and use that for the floors.

mcoughlin 02-13-2011 02:49 PM

Did you cut the entire outer rocker out and weld straight onto the inner piece? That's what I am thinking about doing to mine. I just bought my first xj for $200 that runs great but is a little rusted. And at 17 I don't have a ton of money so if ya don't mind me asking, about how much did this whole project cost you?
