Default The "zombie trailer": off-road utilityrecovery setup

So I come home for Thanksgiving, and my dad has this half-finished project. What do you guys think? Its an old Chevy shortbed he picked up. So far he's got truck boxes on the sides, a diamond plate truck box on the front tongue, and a 50 gal. gas tank on the front.

Stuck it on my Jeep just for kicks. Height-wise, its set up for his F350.

He's still planning on chopping the tongue and making the hitch adjustable... longer (longest 33") for freeway driving, shortest(~12") for close following on the trail.

Tires are 8-lug Ford Pattern, matches the tires/spares to his truck. These tires are bigger than on my Jeep, at the moment...

tying in the hitch with a crossbar welded to the frame.

My dad and I have always been into fabrication, making bumpers, roof racks, sliders, etc. But if he's making stuff like this, I might have to come by more often! Next for the "Zombie trailer" is a "slider" with a deep angle right before the tires... so instead of the tires getting hung up on a pothole or rock, the sliders will slide it over, lifting the tires and the trailer... if that makes sense at all. I might try to get a picture.

thats a pretty good idea I like the fact that you can carry extra gas and all the tools you would need. post more pics of it when its done. especially the adjustable tongue.

Thanks! Its gonna be our do-all setup. So if we're doing off-road recovery or camping or whatever... it'll have everything we need. I know a set of bench vice and a pelican box are awaiting their attachment.... we'll have to see!

From what i can see in the picture, and my minimal experience with welding. Looking at the last picture of the crossbar, did those welds get any penetration?

Edit: just tack welds while you bolt in i guess, just looked really bubbly. yet it raises another question; why bolt it on when you have access to a welder?

Sucker does look pretty heavy, but still, very nice.
