lower control arm mounts better inside, dead on, outside of "frame"?
im going to be running a 76 ford D44 with the cast wedges... my plan is to do like this (the part where he builds the modified radius arms) http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=791009 as ive read several write ups and read how many people have done it... all seem to love the setup vs the only "unloading" problem which can be fixed else ways... anyways i read that the wedges are almost dead in line with the middle of the frames of an XJ... im thinking the EASIEST way is to make the control arms mounts under the frame dead in the middle... cause i can just run 2 plates down either side of the frame to take the control arm... alittle harder then that i know but you know what i mean... anyway would this be alright? i guess i would loose ground clearance huh? since im wanting to push these back as far as i can... would it be best to run the mounts in the inside or outside of the frame with this axle? i mean flex wise? this would be harder to make and probly would just buy them... this is my first axle build so im not a master... lol... but from what i understand in reading up on this is that its about as easy as it comes... thanks!!

Don't know about where to mount but just FYI the 44s with cast wedges have 1/4" tubes (at least where there is tube cause there isn't any where the wedges are) so you might want to consider a truss. I though I got a great deal on mine and found out the hard way about these. I have seen a couple of people mount them to the x-member but didn't really look all that close.

i read the statistics on this axle... let me find the link... this guy knows EVERYTHING about the ford D44... my 76 fell under the 3/8 in tube OR the 1/2in tube... so according to that i have one of these 2...

You might want to check to be sure the pic in 11 should read 77.5 till 79. 77 was the year they changed them sometime mid year and I thought 76 had welded on wedges not cast. You gotta love Mr. N, a ton of good info.

see... my wedges looked welded on to me... but the control arms are still on... so couldnt tell well... but from this he says they are cast... another guy told me as well they are cast... so i dunno anymore... ill find out this weekend... going to get it today... either way i planned to truss it before install and i think i might still keep it as a radius setup... since most jeep lift kits that include upper control arms go with the radius setup anyways... better flex and dont have to worry about what he upper arms are rubbing against...
