INSTALLED: Chrysler LaBaron Hood Vent!
 

Hey guys,

I've been wanting to do this for a lond time but I could always get a clean shine after a good wax. I fogged my hood with spray paint mist before and I know it would take alot of buffing to get out.
This hood came off a LaBaron at our fire fighter training tower. It was used as extrication practive and it was the only thing that survived! haha the chief let me have it, but I was atonished it survived. imagine all the training we do at the tower with a bunch of firefighters with axes, pike poles, hydrant wrenches. needless to say chopped cars get windows busted and door and trunks ripped open for practice.

anyway, I like it so far.. still trying to get used to it. I painted it with rustoleum gloss black and rustoleum Clear enamel.

I shot myself in the foot on this project!
I put down a bead of silicone adhesive under the vent and onaround the cut that I made to seal it realy well. I then put anchoring screws all around the vent which made it solid and part of the hood, but anyway all that silicone can out and I had to wipe it off.
I forgot how much I hate silicone. Its good stuff but its sooooo extremely messy if it gets out of control. I mean on everything!!!!!! So yep I had it all over my fingers and I touched the hood all over and got the nasty silicone all over my hood sot to mention everywhere within 6" of the vent.
I scrubed my hood with soap and water and the rough side of a sponge and even used paint thinner scrub all over it.

I thought it was clear of ols but I found out when I painted it wasnt. I got the orange peel tipe spots around the vent.

I may wait a couple of weeks and go back and sand it down well, OR I could rhino line the hood which I think would be sweet!

Dont give me crap about my drip pan, Im making a new one when I find home and can to get to grandpas shop. Im going to make a full metal BA one. the one out of rubber vinyl mat was leftovers from the fabric for the rear of my rear seat. It works kinda, Its mainly to try and protect my distributo for now.

so ya, looking forward to what you guys think, and I dont mind tips cuz this was the first time Ive ever taken my hood off let alone install a vent.
Im happy with the result!

Why didn't you put it over the exhaust side?

alright this is the rest!

the shape of it, if you look at it on the hood, the 2 flat sides are the side in the back and the side near center of hood. if you are sitting in the passenger seat of the jeep and looking through the windsheild, the vents right side is tapered in significantly.

I have seen pix with dual LaBaron vents and I dont know how they do the other one? maybe upsidedown ... but that would nook nasty

anyway, my 2 cents

Oh and its venting quite well im sure. when she gets warm and I come to a stop at a signal or something its nothing but heat waves in the air oabove the vent so I can see its working. and if I park it and turn it off the heat just spills out upward cuz its sucking cold air from underneith.

I think it will also be great in snow in the winter. its easy to overheat your car if yoi plug up your radiatior with snow. I know the vent has nothing to do with internal engine temperature but I think that it will vent nicely alowing COLD air in from below. the vent should plug up with snow withing 1/2 inch or so cuz the openings are small

Do the other side too. That is really nice!

ya that would be the ultimate goal, but like stated up ahead its a unique shape and they dont have ones for the other side. I wish I could get my hands on a welder to fabericate a scoop that shape and size.

I installed some lebaron hood vents a few years ago and if I remember correctly I had them both facing the same direction and squar to the center rib in the hood of the jeep. They end up tapering in a bit but I think it looks pretty good and it DEFINITELY helps expel some of the heat.
