Inside center grab handles

I made these a while back as an alternative to my wife grabbing the plastic center console whenever we lean hard one way or the other. Thought I would share it in case someone else is interested. The roof is a very thin tin material so in order to structurally make it sound I used an L bracket and some metal pads on the ends to distribute the force. I used silicone to hold the pads in place and also to waterproof the holes. so far they work well.

Metal pads in the background. When I pull on the grab handles the roof flexes until the L bracket sits on the pads. This permits the weight to be distributed across the roof until it bracket comes in contact with the pads. Most of the roofs strength is on the edges. The roof has a slight curve to it which is why the bracket normally rests higher than the pads. Its about a 1/4 gap. I can hang my full weight of 195 lbs on them, no problem.

Bolt protruding through roof. I spaced them to run through the ribs.
