Bad Day in the XJ
So this happened Saturday night. Front tire got caught in a drainage ditch, within seconds I was upside-down. Got it home and it fired right up. This thing runs and drives great, or did before the mishap. Roof is pretty well caved in. It’s my winter driver. Considering cutting off the roof at the base of the pillars and welding on a JY replacement.
CAN IT BE DONE? Should it be done? Anyone here ever do it?
Cheers!

If you are a skilled welder....
The thing is, it will never be as strong. If you ever roll it again, it might collapse instead of just caving in, resulting in caving in your head. I saw a show about this many years ago, and how people had been killed because they bought a used car that had been rolled and had the roof replaced, and the next time it rolled, the roof collapsed. Of course the focus of the show was on the unscrupulous people who replace a roof and don't disclose it, but still, people have died in accidents that shouldn't have killed anyone.'

This is a big job even for a skilled welder, haha
Yes it can be done...however now's the time for a cage. If it were me, I would cut the bad out, and make the decision, street rig or trail rig?....that amount of work, ya might as well just make it a trail beater, and I'd probably just do a full cage with a soft top. You can try to find a donor, but 2 doors are already hard to find, finding a scrapped one to cut up even more so...regardless, I'd do a full proper cage.
