Default Homebrew Wide Body Front Fenders

After sometime of just messing with the stock flares I have found that front flares on a lifted jeep are about as functional as a a box of rocks. So I found some good threads and pictures of homebrew fiberglass wide body fenders. Tomorrow I will be embarking on this project. Also at a fire department meeting the local sheriffs officer told me that he strongly suggests I get better tire coverage as the mud on his windshield as he drove in was not appreciated very much... Since I deal with law enforcement on a regular bases I think I should comply with state requirements... So here it begins! I will post some pictures tomorrow as I dig in. As always, constructive criticism is appreciated.

Thanks,

Well I strongly under estimated the amount of foam I will need for this projects... I used three cans and I just have the outline and a little shape to the fenders... Might as well pick up a case. Here is the picture I promised. I have a lot of work to do.

I think there are better less expensive ways of doing that. Try cardboard. What are your expected materials?

Sadly it is the big gap foam... I'm going to try another brand... I figured spray foam was the easiest route but I'm thinking sold insulation foam would have been a better idea.

My plan is to use the foam as a mold then a couple layers of fiber glass then a good layer of resin. Then I will sand it down and coat with bedliner. I was going to make a gelcoat mold but figured I'm not going to have a gloss coat so as long as its smooth I'm fine.

I'm thinking of also removing the corner blinkers and inlaying LEDs into the fiber glass. We will see..

Is there anything wrong with using sheet metal? I just think if you're going to spend time and money doing something like this you won't want it to break or crack against a tree. Just my .02, either way I'm interested

Another thought, taking off the fenders and laying some plastic over them, one layer of foam, let it dry. Bam instant shape and contour, less foam.

What I did was cover the fender in foil and foam on that. I need 5.5 inches of material past the fender so i did some rough calculations and i would need another 11 cans if I do I perfect. So to save myself some time and effort I'm going to try and use two methods. I'll just go to home depot and get some sheet insulation foam and remove the fenders and build off of that. So I will get it close with the sheets and fill the rest with great stuff.

Just buy two part expanding foam, much greater expansion, much easier to shape, much less expensive.
