home made light bar / roof rack
Got to work on a roof rack a while back, and progress has been slow. I got some daylighters for my birthday and started on the light bar for the front end of it. My plan is to make it usable with or without the rack. All that's left to do is make a gutter mount that I can use for the roof rack and for the light bar, and get the lights wired up. So far, everythings come together pretty well. Let me know what you think.

Finished wiring up the lights yesterday. The light bar is just about finished, and the rack isn't too far behind

Got my lights wired up over break, and even got to test them out. The roof rack is just about ready for paint. Should be done this week, and ill get some pictures of it installed.

Got some paint on the rack.. I still need to get some metal grate for the sides and bottom. To top it off, I can't fit in the garage with the lights on the rack. So the plan is to eliminate the aluminum channel and cap off the top and bottom of the lip the lights sit on, utilizing the space in between for my wiring. That should gain me two inches or so, giving me just enough room to fit. Once we get the material for the bottom and sides, we can start on the mounts for the tent.. please ignore the ugly. (beautifying is one of my top priorities, but somehow never number one)

Nice fab work. That rack came out great. Looking forward to finished pics with the sides and bottom. Great idea for the "light box". To bad you cant just make it more narrow but I hear ya on the garage clearance issue.

Just a thought. Anyway nice, clean work. Looks sharp.

Thanks for all the comments! And Alpine- i thought of doing something like that, but since the box is sort of overkill to begin with, we figured we could just eliminate it and still gain the space we needed.
