nice homebrew solution, i dont think the lights changed much over the years as far as size goes so for the guy with the 91 it shouldnt be hard to do the same or find an aftermarket housing......at least you dont drive the cherokees four eyed relative the waggy.......although as of last night i now have a solution for my craptastic sealed beams

Here's my newest set and what's currently on my XJ.
FX-R 2.0s
E55-R Shrouds
and Lots of work lol.
There have been guys rocking retrofits on their XJs for a couple years now. It really hasn't gone mainstream yet though and I doubt it ever will (most XJ owners are too cheap to start blowing $500 on lighting).

The picture is a little warmer than the actual output of my 4300k HIDs.

Here's what my previous retrofit looked like when I had it all together.
Morimoto Mini D2S.... Wasn't that happy with the performance, but I did mod them quite a bit with some extra parts from TRS. I later took this retrofit apart and am about to sell the Mini D2S to a buddy of mine since I'm doing his car next lol.
The set of Mini projectors now have the new Mini H1 black parabolic cutoff shield + solenoid assembly transplanted into them. I dubbed them "Frankenstein Projectors" lol. Performance is 10x what the old D2Ss had and they also have a nice color flicker to them.

They were more as a prototype, and also the reason why I have FXRs now. Morimoto Mini projectors tend to be "le suck"

The most notable difference was beam width and also distance. The width is about 2x wider than what a Mini D2S has. Distance is definitely a lot farther too.
Also, the foreground lighting is dispersed more evenly.
You'll never be able to get the same performance from a smaller projector as you would a larger one. The reflector bowl on the Morimoto mini is tons smaller than the FXR's and that automatically goes into account with light distribution.
Here's a couple shots in comparison.
