Grooved tires.
 

Well here is the tool I used to groove my TSL's. It is the Hoosier Tire Groover from Summit. Was under 100 shipped to my door. It comes with a Pack of #4 blades. Just a FYI this thing gets stupid hot, and a #4 blade is a 1/4". Blades are measured in 16ths. Replacement packs are under 17 bucks.

I only cut the middle lugs, if I get around to it.. I will Flip the blade over and cut grooves into the outer lugs.

Time for a disclaimer.... This is on a set of slightly used set of 36" TSL Bias ply tires. I am not concerned with tire balancing (as they are not balanced. The Theory behind cutting tires is it gives the tire more edges to grip the rocks, and helps them flex better

Those are a classic Rock crawling tires... Not as popular as others, but work great. Especially when you pay next to nothing for them.

Pretty cool! What's the purpose? Admittedly i worked in a tire shop for quite a while (even ran it for a time) but never really understood why some people groove them. I figure it has to be a noise or performance thing.

Super Swampers are THE rock crawling tire. I bet you 6 out of 10 Rock buggies run the TSL/SX. and then about 8 out of 10 rock buggies run Supper Swamper brand

The purpose as he stated give the tire more biting edge's. It is a grip thing, instead of solid rubber blocks trying to grip a surface you now have several little tread blocks which can move more freely and conform to the surface better giving better grip

He made it his own, so i'm letting it ride.

It helps more with tire flex, therefore allowing the tire to self clean much better.

To do all 4 tires it took about 2 hours. The blade was getting a lil dull towards the end. SO if I would have changed the blade Might have made it a lil faster. I also cut each lug 3 times... I have seen other sets were they only cut the big lugs 3 times, and cut smaller lugs 2.

I saw a guy use a chain saw once. Took him 2 min a tire.

1 sneeze and your out a tire.
