front fender cutting
1992 cherokee sport with 3" lift. I want to trim the fenders but not sure about the proper way to do this, I dont want to screw it up. I have the tools but not sure where to start and where to end the cutting. any help would be great.

My Cherokee already had the flares off when I bought it, and the lines from where the flares used to be are easily noticed.
I cut the first lip off mine (about 1/4"), then cut vertical slips around 1.5-2" apart and rolled them behind the the rest of the fender (I wanted the folded look and strength rather than the sharp edge from just cutting). In total, the opening is about 3/4-1" bigger.
These are a couple before and after pics (before painting the lip, as I hadn't gotten pics yet):

I'm not sure if the windshield washer fluid reservoir is present on said year, but make sure you don't cut into it. My 2k has it mounted under the driver side fender.

if you don't want to roll the fenders, you can always just paint and add rubber door trim with adhesive to get rid of the sharp edges

thanks for the help guys. I think im ready to do this now, you were all a great help and after seeing some of the pics my idea of using the wide flares is now deleted! I diddnt like the way it looked so im gonna cut and clean the metal and leave it be. looks better that way to me, the small rubber window trim is a nice touch....I may use that. thanks again.

i do like the idea of leaving a little extra metal from the trim, then cutting and rolling for added strength. maybe a combo of both, but & roll for strength, then add the trim for the looks

and they turned out great! seriously, I was scared to death I was gonna screw it up but man, it turned out really nice. I will post some pics as soon as I get the rear fenders cut tomorrow. im also gonna start building my front winch bumper tomorrow after I get finished with the fenders.......
Wish me luck....I just pray the rear turns out like the front.

The biggest trouble I ran into with the rear is a rusted out spot from the flare which caused the body to seperate once folded. Gotta work on fixing that still.
Here is a couple quick pics after being rocker guarded:
I may extend the paint line up alittle more to help cover the scratches from the flares, haven't decided yet though.

i have yet to cut the rear, but will be watching out to make sure the pinch seam stays together (hopefully)
