Not a bad start..

Texas XJeeper 01-04-2011 08:32 PM

Oh wait?!?!?! What size metal is that?

gpXJ 01-04-2011 08:34 PM

It looks thin right?? 1/8" maybe? Lol at first I was gonna say, 'You know that cardboard ain't gonna hold up long, right?"

Yeah I was like that wood is going to break. But look at the frame mounts too. They wont hold up to a good yank or a small bump for that matter.

Good start. Make sure to put some extra strength int eh mounting brackets if you plan on putting on a winch. JCR sells tie in brackets that will distribute the strain further down the unibody. You may want to look into them.

he needs to make better mounts before worrying about thicker material, 1/8 will be stronger than the sheet metal that the unibody is made of.

great bumper if your just after the tough look:thumbsup:

The steel was thinner then I expected after ordering, I was trying not to go to thick to keep weight down. It is all reinforced with a bunch of angle iron. I was trying to make it to fit a winch that I would like to get but don't have so we where guessing on that, after building we decided to make it 2inches smaller. IT seemed to big to me to. I was worried about the mounts, they use the 3 factor bumper holes and the steering bolts and then wrap under and mount to the sway bar bolts.
