fishing pole mounts
 

thinking about installing mounts in the cargo area of my jee to hang my finishing poles (collapsed obviously). has anyone done this before? how would i go about it? i dont like the idea of external fishing pole mounts, id rather have them inside where i know they're safe. pics would be nice

I used to carry poles in my work van for when I was out of town and saw a good spot. I mounted 3" pvc pipe to the roof and used a small bungie cord to hold them in. Didn't have to break them down that way.

Are you looking for something to fish out of or something to carry your poles? I've though about setting up a couple rod holders on the end of a piece of 2x2 to go into a reciever hitch. Where I river fish for salmon, I can pull my jeep right up to the water and even a little in if I want, so I fish out of the back all the time.

When I was a kid my scout master had a gun rack in the rear quarter window and we used it for fishing poles all the time. If you didn't want a gun rack you could even run a couple peices of..oh...3/4 x 11/2 .065 wall rect. tube vertically in the rear quarter window and then figure out a securing system. Rubber bands? Maybe just a couple pieces of nylon strap bolted on, one side being a metal snap so you can get your poles out easy. Or one piece of canvas or sunbrella per pole, say...3" wide by the distance between the vertical tubes. One long side would be secured to the vertical tubes, and the oppisite side would have snaps. The idea being that the sunbrella or canvas would wrap around your pole protecting it from damage and also protect your dogs/kids from getting snagged on a hook. Some ellastic on each end would help compensate for different sized line eyes, just like welding sleaves....Great now I got ANOTHER project

I used a berkeley 4-pole rack in the extended cab part of my ranger. I dropped the headliner and mounted it with some screws and washers from the back, then secured the poles in with a bungee. I plan on doing this right up the center of my jeep as soon as I get tired of the headliner flapping in my rearview mirror.

just a thought, the 97+ cherokees, to avoid drilling holes in any place major, couldnt the overhead console and speaker section from the back be used as mounting points, then run the poles from back to the front in the middle of the jeep?! just a brain toot

ever think about a cheap gun rack. thats what my dad uses in the truck. stick it in one of the last window.... there like $10.

I like the idea.. would help clean up my garage too.. :)

i wanted to do this too so i went to lowes and picked up these suction cup hooks and put them on the back window and they work just fine....o and they were only like 2 bucks each

I did this in my old Jeep, and the Caravan before that.

Get a Berkley 4 rod holder, with the twist locks, and feel around for the ribs on the ceiling. Use a #8 3/4" tech screw and mount away.

If I wasn't 6' 2", I would have put two in. But I would have rubbed my big pumpkin on the rods everywhere we went. So I just put one set in the center.

The only draw back, you can't put 15' rods in. You can put 13' rods in, broke down though.

i like the idea about using the center lights but to still use them maybe making some small metal brackets or something to extend to the side so still plent of light, idk but i have often thought of having them up on the ceiling as well but the pvc seems like a simplething as well. I'll be watching and see if i can come up with something as well

I used two 12" bungees one hooked in the back around the handlas and one hooked into the crossmember in the roof just between the seats. Works for three poles.
Cost less than 5 bucks.

you can use a snow board or ski rack...they even lock so no one will mess with your stuff

I have to take a picture but I just got a berkly wall rack and just bolted it to the roof and siliconed the bolts.
