electric fan shroud, mech. fan delete.
hello all.
my renix era jeep was in need of some upgrades to the cooling system, radiator was leaky, and the fan clutch was weak..so rather the buy replacments, i decided to upgrade to the later style open cooling system.
Since my fan clutch was weak, and the factory shroud was missing, i decided to build something fun.
Stated with some .040 5052 aluminum sheet, sheared to my liking.
then put in the brake to form the edges.
Next i laid out the fans to check the demensions..lol..measure twice cut once.
once the centers were found i bagan laying out the centers, and drilled a 1/4 hole in the center for my plasma jig. its a 1" wide strip of scrap. and a 3/8 hole marked at the radius of the cirlcle..see below..little confusing.
once the pieces are out they look like this.

with the cut outs done, it was time to cap the ends, i used 1x1 angle and welded to to the "frame".
once the ends were done, i welded some 1" strip of aluminum to the inside to prevent cross flow from the fans....this helps to direct air from each fan through the radiator..instead of across the back.
dont knock my welds..been a while..and i had to do this "freehand" no support as i dont have a proper tig table in my garage..
You cant see all the welds in this angle..as the welds are "stagered from side to side.
not installed on the radiator..but the 1" angle adds to the mounting next to the radiator core. and the fans are held in by#10 machine screws going into nutserts.
have no idea how it works...will be some time before it is installed.
also using a digital, ajustable fan speed controller for it with a manual bypass(switch).
hope you all like.

how does your adjustable controller work? could you set it up so it runs no fans until its up to temp (better for winter), then have it run the fans in 3 stages, so it only runs what it needs?

10 blades curved..pretty stiff blades at that, have yet to run an amp guage at start up, but the listed specs are i think 1250cfm at 80 watts(5.8amp draw)approx.((at 13.6volt input))
ball bearing shafts..most bushings like some cheap fans.
I will tell ya, these things move some air! prob should have only done two..but three looke better..lol

Nice tig welds man. I'm in the process of learning how to weld aluminum. I can tig weld mild steel pretty good already.
