Default Driveshaft Length

Ok so I am working on my ZJ and discovered the front drive shaft will not work for the rear as a replacement after I put the lift and a 231 with a HNT flange on.

So I am now looking to get a replacement I know I could talk to Tom or Adam about their stuff but I'm Canadian and that would just cause a lot of issues on its own. So I hope maybe we have some experts on the matters in here and could give me an idea of what I need to do.

So from flat of flange to center of cap on the rear pinion I am looking at around 38.5" but where my question comes in is that there is a double cardan on this so that would be 38.5" extended and if you subtract the double cardan... say 3"... that leaves you around the 36" mark.

So would I need a driveshaft that is 36" compressed? Or 38" extended?

Thoughts? This whole driveshaft stuff hurts my brain.

I think the HD driveshafts (Adams, Tattons, Tom Woods, Etc) all come with extended splines.
I would ask them because all they do is build driveshafts for Jeeps and would probably know. Most of them have instructions on measuring for a custom DriveShaft.

Yes I have measured and I have been in touch with both though email as phone calls etc are to much for us Canadians lol.

But their measurements and how things work does not allow me to understand how things work :P

I understand the measurement is what you need for OVERALL length.. but does that mean fully collapsed or extended? OR how much spline shaft sticking out etc.

I'm most likely going to have to get mine extended from the majority of the research I'm doing. I need to gain at least 10" more on what I have already lol.
