DIY $40 10" Sub box for cubby hole
8 Attachment(s)
Nothing real serious here but I figure if anyone else wants to build one have at it.
In helping overhaul Red82's Jeep, I thought of something he had mentioned a while back that he was really wanting but just didn't have the time/money to respectively make/buy. So, I figured I'd make the box, give him my old 10" sub, and buy him a small amp to run it off of. Started with these designs (measurements ended up slightly modified, but these still give the basic idea): Attachment 322980 Then got the cubby box made and set up the backer plate to be cut out and attached to it: Attachment 322981 Attachment 322982 Got it attached and then built the main body of the box: Attachment 322983 Attachment 322984 From there it was just a matter of cutting the hole out of the front plate for the sub and attaching it to the rest of the box: Attachment 322985 All the joints are glued and screwed together and every seam has silicone applied to keep moisture out. To help with this even further and to not have to worry about making a fabric cover look pretty I bought a couple cans of Rustoleum Flex Seal to give a rubberized finish that will help keep the moisture away from the box material. Attachment 322986 Did test fits throughout the building to make sure everything was good and once it was done drying, did a final fitment just to make sure: Attachment 322987 Like I said, no real crazy fab or anything and the only metal used in the project were the screws, but it beats spending over $100 to have someone else make one that'll do the exact same thing as this $40 box that eats up less than half a cubic foot of cargo room. |

I've never understood why people where headphones while driving. I've done it before but I can't handle the loss of one of my senses while driving. Just play the dang radio.
Box looks nice. The only thing I would have done differently is I would have used 5/8" MDF. It's much easier to work with than particle board and it holds up longer. |
ok fine fine, its illegal in PA(I never knew that) Most states dont care (neither do I)... I have good quality ear buds, so its better sound than the XJ system especially with the window down.
I guess I'll be calling crotchfold for some MP3 upgrades. |

Looks good. I half assed mine together and I have never been thrilled with the sound.

i love this but could a 12" boss p127dvc fit in this box with the depth?

Take a 5-6" speaker and put it in an old plastic drinking pitcher with it flush to the top. Cheapest sub box ever.

This is sweet! I am building a cargo storage drawer and I planned on designing this to mount next to it. You just saved me a ton of work
