cheapest bumper yet

So iv been wanting a little tougher bumper for a long time, and being as broke as i am buying one was out of the question. Also not being/having a welder ( wich i would love to have/do ) making one that was'nt "bolt on or together" was also out of the question... unfortunately.
just the other day i was walking the dog around my house and tripped over a fairly nice piece of tube steel, a little rusty but not bad an immediately knew what i wanted to do with it. just a little smaller than i would have liked but mehhh. So i cut it to length cleaned and painted it. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/attach...1&d=1333249879

Mounting took a little more thought. so i just took a look at alllllll the spare junk i had laying around. the piece that stood out.... old u bolts
i did want to drill in to anything that couldnt be replaced so i used the old bumper mounts just had to put one hole in both also using the existing top holehttps://www.cherokeeforum.com/attach...1&d=1333251800

But the threading only when so far up the u so...... i cheated a little hahahttps://www.cherokeeforum.com/attach...1&d=1333252234
they're the sleeves that fit inside a shock bushing.... an i dont know what i was thinking about those front shock top bushings... something.. but whatever.
tightened it up and that was it!

total cost 0$
lemme know what you guys think!

How thick is that tubing wall?

danjoe Apr 1, 2012 11:24 AM

1/8 inch

96rokee Apr 1, 2012 11:30 AM

might wanna go a little thicker..

3/16 is usually a minumum for bumpers and skids.

hit a tree or anything with that and itll crumple.

just my .02cents

It was better off though he posted this here and not pirate.
I gave him for the effort. Let him look at his work and be proud of it. Not something most of the veterans would do but I can remember things I've done when I was young and learning.
A tough bumper.. Prolly not. But as far as looks department I'd throw him a wave if I saw him on the road cause it shows effort and he's trying.
