Default Boat trailer to car hauler conversion

Quick picture thread of a boat trailer I’m converting into a car/utility trailer. I got the trailer for 600 with a title. I jumped the gun on this one forsure. Trailer prices have gone up and at the time there wasn’t a lot of options. If I were to do it again I would’ve just built one from scratch. First I cut the 3 boat crossmembers out and got three sticks of 4” channel to replace them. Spaced them 4’ apart with the idea to eventually have a crossmember every 2’

Then with the scrap channel I had from the old crossmembers I added a 2’ dovetail.

Then as funds allowed I added in more crossmembers
4” channel spaced 2’ apart.

Some pics of before and after the additional supports I welded in to support the decking where the weight of the vehicle will sit. I have two more supports to weld in on the dovetail and then I can finally weld in the deck.

Decking with 1/8” plate so the additional bracing is there to support the deck where the vehicles weight will sit. Just have two more pieces to cut to size and I can weld in the deck. Using a plasma cutter and straight edge to cut out the 1/8” sheet

Made some progress on the trailer, 10lbs of welding wire later and this is where I’m at. Rain comes Monday so I’ll finish the last bit of welding and paint it this weekend before it gets covered in rust. Wheel wells will come later. I’m welding in a crossmember down the middle to add some support for the deck.
