What was your first car ?

I thought it would be fun to see what everybody posts! We all remember our first car ! Our real taste of freedom !!! So, I'll go first ! I got my license and started driving in 1978. By that time, I was more than ready and had been driving up and down two-lane and dirt country roads. My ol man drove trucks, I was even driving them. He made me learn ! I traveled with him on the road. When he'd get tired, I'd drive while he slept ! A ten speed, split shift Spicer, was nothing to me at 15 yrs old !!! Anyways , we didn't have much. My parents made me buy my first car, my tires, my gas and my insurance ! My first car was bought from a neighbor. A one owner ! It was an immaculate 1969 Pontiac Catalina. Two door, gold with black vinyl top. It had a 428 with four barrel and 3spd turbo hydro-matic. It would fly !!! Wish I had it now !!! I got that car for $300 cash !!!

1971 Ford Maverick that i bought at a garage sale for $150 in the mid 90s. $100 worth of tune up and brake parts, my dad and i had it back on the road in two days.

302/auto, B&M shifter, Keystone mags, glasspacks, jack up in the back like a pissed off stinkbug. Lol, i ****ing LOVED that car.

Should have invested in new tires. Blew a tire, snapped a ball joint... took out two guardrails, a honda civic, and 3 small trees.

Body was flawless till that happened.

Got my permit on my 16th birthday in 2006. Bought a 77 Chevrolet C10 for $700 bucks. About a month later it got hit by a dodge dakota as I was entering a parking lot. fender bender with some grill and headlight damage. Got a $1400 insurance check and I fixed the truck for free with a come along and spare parts from the back yard

It's been an on again off again love affair but I still have the truck to this day. Drive it all the time

Yeah,,, now that you mention it, I recall a couple of mail boxes flying over my Pontiac !!! Was late for school one cold morning. Took off before the window defrosted. I could see ok thru the little hole at the bottom, till I turn a corner, right into the sun !!! That's when the mail boxes went flying !!! LOL Everyone has A story !!! Keepem comin' !!!

It was my dad's old brown ugly 93 ZJ that refused to die. Burned a quart of oil every 3k miles, but ran like a champ. Sadly, it was cash for clunkered with over 400k miles on the clock.

Drove it long enough till I could afford my first car, a 2001 Mustang V6 5-spd. Embarrassingly slow so I ended up trading up to another 2001 but with the 2v 4.6L after 6 months or so

Throughout all of that, the ZJ lurked in the background and was always ready to get me to school when I couldn't get the Mustang back together by monday morning after a weekend of modding.

I never got to drive it any further than the end of the driveway, but mine was a hand me down from my uncle 1970 Malibu with a 350 4 barrel and a 4 speed. Manual everything, no a/c. Wanted to restore it so bad but when times get rough you have to make a choice. What bothers me to this day is that the guy i sold it to took the engine out and sent the rest to the scrap yard. It was an all original numbers matching Malibu! The only thing wrong with it was the shredded driver side 1/4 just behind the door and missing carpet, and one chrome trim piece for the vinyl top.

I dont know what I would consider my first car. At 14, I got a free 81 z28 Camaro. Fixed it up and sold it. Bought a 71 RS Camaro after that at 15. Built an engine for it, threw it in and sold it. Found a 70 Camaro at 15 1/2 (good condition stock driver), fixed it up and kept it. It was the first car I actually drove with my license so I guess thats what I consider my first car. Kept it for about 5 years, LS swapped it and sold it for good money since LS swaps didnt really exist yet. Biggest regret so far was selling it...

1989 XJ. It was lifted, had 31s, and was super rusty. I drove that for five years, then I got a 1990 XJ when the 89's engine knocked too badly. Five years later--this week--I picked up a 2007 Jeep KJ with a 6 speed. I haven't decided what I'm going to do with it, yet. After 10 years behind the wheel of two XJs, something different feels good. It's my first jeep without an NP242, though... I may look into swapping transfer cases. NP242s are great up here during winter.

1961 VW Bug. I bought it in 1968 when I was 15 and got it going in time for when I got my licence in 1969.

I went through a bunch of different cars my first 2 years driving. The only one I really liked was a 1994 jeep cherokee country.
The only one I kept was a 1997 saturn sc2. I still own it. It's a pile of crap.

my first car was in 1986, i was 16. it was a hand me down from my dad. it was a 1980 oldsmobile omega. 4 cyl with a 4 speed. front wheel drive, but that thing would smoke the tires better than a v8 camaro. i know because we had a little contest. lol. everyone thought i had a v8 in it. trick was to slightly back up while i threw it in 1st and dumped the clutch with a foot full of gas.
don't remember what happened to that car after a clutch replacement, but next was another hand me down, the car my dad got when i got the omega. it was a 1984 celebrity eurosport. very cool car for a 17 year old. he replaced that with an 88 eurosport. i didn't get that one. lol.

but my first car was when i was 14. dad brought home a 69 buick skylark 2 door with a 350. didn't get to drive that one. i blew it up in the driveway doing burnouts.

now the first car i ever bought with my own money, i was 17. picked up a 70 duster 318 auto, blew that up racing my buddy in his 1980 cutlass 442 w30. i had him till the motor went. then i put in a 340 and 727 torque flight with an 8 3/4 rear end with 3.91 sure grip. that car was a rocket.
problem was, it attracted more dudes than chicks, but that eurosport, now that had more chicks in it than any other vehicle i ever owned, including my harley. lol. it was silver with red interior/accents. had a floor shift auto with buckets. four door, but that just meant easier to get chicks in. lol. i was 17 and very happy. lol.

A 2002 Dodge Intrepid with the 2.7L V6 from hell (and the car itself was generally a pain/expensive to work on). It is still the vehicle that I spent the most on repairs for during the time I owned it (and it was only 4 years old when I got it and a little over 8 when I got rid of it, I don't think it ever went more than a month or two without something breaking). Surprisingly the engine never failed and I never had any sludge issues (though it did require an $1,100 water-pump replacement, for anyone who doesn't know the water pump on these is driven by the timing chain and requires pulling the entire front of the vehicle/engine off to get to it, and I had to pay a shop to do it since that was a little beyond what I was willing/able to do in the college parking lot), the transmission finally started slipping bad just before 150k mi (after needing a valve-body replacement at 85k mi) and that's when I got rid of it (I couldn't justify the cost of a transmission on a vehicle with a failure-prone engine that could have gone at any time with that mileage).
