hey, all! this my first post/question on the forum. i have an '89 comanche that i'm replacing the u joints on. the problem i have is, while driving, the rear u joint croaked and the drive shaft fell from the rear end/ pinion flange (thank goodness it was the rear end). i know how to replace the joints but without having marked and removed the drive shaft myself, i dont know how to be sure it is being replaced properly. do you just have to make sure the keyway spline lines up with the output shaft in the trans, or is there more to it. thank you, in advance, for any and all answers.

When it hit the ground/under carriage did it damage the yoke? that will make it wobble. The driveshaft is balanced as a separate unit so reinstallation is not critical. Now would be a great time to replace all the u-joints. If you don't do any type of maintenance on this vehicle now would be a great time to start. It's better to replace components before they fail and leave you stranded.

thanks for that info. yeah, i replaced all u joints and even the rear seal. now that i have the extra info, i can reinstall it. thanks, again
