if you're looking for a project, the less you pay the better. keep in mind that just about every part is available new for a vintage bug. how much of a project are looking for? if you want to learn body work/panel replacement, a bug is a great car to learn on. i wouldn't worry if the car you get is complete or not. a lot of stuff will need replacement so it may save you from having a lot of trash. i would budget about $15,000 for a complete restoration on a bug depending on how far you want to go and the condition of the car to start.

its hard to say without seeing the car. i bought my 68 bug 10 years ago for $300 with a blown motor and trashed interior. make sure you poke around under the car to check for rust in the pan. also look at where the battery sits. do you know anyone that can go with you to help look/value it?

Okay so my dad restored 4 beatles and super beatles in high school to show quality from clunkers. (he is 42 now) he even had one that was gumby green(sold it to put a down payment on the house that they bought before i was born)

He said to pay as little as you can get it for. And yes everything is available to do a complete restore and since they are simple to work on it is perfect.

He recommends that you strip EVERYTHING out of it and label it, have it media blasted and then go at it! doing the motor and tranny work outside the bug, then finding all of the pieces you need and start ordering.

If you need any advice let me know. Like i said he built 4 of them during highschool from clunkers to show quality-enough to pay for a down payment on a norcal 2000sqft house in 1990

The main thing to look at is the frame... the center section of the bug... goes down the middle of car.. big hump... under that ... the floor pans are replacable.. the center section is the only thing i would worry about as far as rust... and check the very front... were all the suspension bolts to..but... around here.. few hundred to 2000 for something thats complete running..If it does not run... dont pay more then a few hundred...if you cant drive it and shift it... it could cost alot just to get it running..bugs are cheap but when you work on them.. you have to pretty much do it right the first time.. or it will not last.. they are simple.. but need just 2 things... air going over the cylinders and oil... do that and they are as dependable as any car ever made..
Ive worked on them on and off pretty much past 26 years...
Take some pics and post..

supers were not made until 1971....please do your research, and if you can't seem to find parts for it....THEN YOU HAVE OTHER PROBLEMS.
I would say from experience with the supers and restoring it, not more than $1500 on a project(as stated above). If you have any questions Please Please , P.M me . And I be more than happy to answer them.

I drive a 1971 super and a old squreback
