Default Sealing an O-ring type fitting

I have a Kia Sportage for my daughter. On the Kia the return coolant line goes into the coolant return via a fitting that has an elongated O-ring type gasket in there that seals the two together by compression. This is leaking. I am going to replace the elongated O-ring but want to put something else in there with it to fortify it as it's an old fitting. What can I use? Maybe a form a gasket type sealant? Something that won't harm the rubber. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Woody

I would highly recommend nothing. Most rtv's or gasket sealers don't do a thing for o-rings and rubber seals.
