so my dad has this 97 tj, with the 4cyl and it has a dana 35 in the rear with 33" tires and im wondering if i could get a dana 44 from some other tj and just swap the gears in to the dana 44, or would i have to buy them from somewhere else?, sorry not really an expert on axles

If you can find a Rubicon 44 and is geared the same, it should be a bolt in.

well the 4 cyl tj's came with low gears to acomodate the lack of power, i think there 3.73 could be wrong, and the rubicons im pretty sure the rubicons where 4.10's

4cyls have 4.10 gears. That I'm sure of.
I'm not 100% on the Rubicon gears, but if they're 4.10, its' a pretty simple swap, but keep in mind you'll need to run some stuff for the locker if you want it to work.

Personally, I bought a Ford 8.8 with LSD for $500 and dropped it in for a fraction of the cost. I would do this again if I had the option. Just match the 4.10 gearing and you're good to go. The mounts can get pricy but if you're patient and watch various forums, you can find 8.8s already setup for a TJ.
