the reason I got into jeeps
2000 929rr with Renthal bars, Yamaha vmaxx Headlight home built carbon fiber mufflers super chip up 2 down 1 gears 176 in 5th gear with no plastics. Tons more to go just ran out of road. Used to be a race bike 200+ mph turned to stunter. Hit some gravel and tore myself up so I traded it for a monster cj7 with a 5.7 and been hooked on jeeps every since

Years ago I was dating a girl with an old 2wd XJ, loved the space inside, and was more than impressed with that old 4.0 motor.
We went on a ski trip to my buddy's cabin in AngelFire NM. We took my car, '87 GT Mustang. After BATTLING up the hill through the snow and ice we finally got to the cabin, where his dad's Wrangler was stored. After running that Jeep around all that weekend I knew I wanted a 4X4 XJ.
Settled for a 1st gen 4Runner for awhile, then got a 92 XJ.
Been hooked on em since. Still have an '89 LX 5.0, but my '99 XJ is my DD, and I can't imagine life any other way.

Oh. But the initial automotive crush started long before that.
Goonies.
Nuff sed!

I still haven't figured it out but rough and tumble, easy to work on, fun mods, tons of cheap parts and information for the home mechanic. Big community of wheelers. What other ride can give you that for the low-four digit price range?

This particular XJ really sums it all up. Flog the snot out of her wheeling all day, then jump on the highway and head out of town for the weekend. Go anywhere, do anything. Climbing over rocks and ruts, sitting in gridlock traffic, or gliding down the highway.
She's happy either way.

I was always a Chevy/GM person since I was very young. 1998 my first child was born so I went and got a 92 S10 blazer with 100k miles. First car I ever bought from a dealership and first one with payments. My buddy around the same time got a 92 xj. Blazed wasn't bad but the 4.3 had nothin on the 4.0.
Fast forward some 3 years and I picked up an 88 xj from a girl I knew for $800. Her moms boyfriend had just bought a brand new 01 xj and sold the 88 to her but she didn't really like it. That lasted a couple years and I sold it. Then when gas prices went through the roof and I was driving an 87 Chevy k20 with a 9 inch lift I picked up a zj. I always wanted a yj but they were so small and impractical I just couldn't buy one. Then I talked my wife into buying a wj, sold the zj to my dad and totaled it one time when I borrowed it. Then the wife had some jack hole turn in front of her and total the wj and we found an xj for the same amount that she got from the insurance for the wj and now I'm out of control with all these jeeps. Lol.
It just comes down to the fact that I always loved cj's, wranglers and what not and I found that Cherokees and grand Cherokees are just as good but more family sized.
