need input on motorcycle
 

for the past couple of years ive been wanting a crotch rocket but never could save the money for it because I was always putting money towards the jeep. but since I pretty much have the jeep where I want it (for now) I actually have money. so I guess my question is, does anyone have any cons of having the bike lowered? its not like I want to do this to a bike but I found one in my price range and it looks pretty sweet and its already done.

It's more dangerous when it's lowered.
If you're a first time crotch rocket owner, do not get a lowered bike.
The balance of the bike get affected, and your corner clearance.

I would just keep looking, It depends on where you live, but I'm also buying one for college commute.. and I see TONS on craigs list. All in all I would stay away from lowered bikes.

thanks man. yea it is my first bike, well street bike. I have ridden dirtbikes for the past couple years but idk how different they are in handling. I imagine quite different? :001_unsure:

Don't. Learn to ride first. If it wasn't lowered properly ie maintaing rake and trail it will not handle like it is supposed to. If you really want a sport bike find a nice used 500-600. Don't worry about out growing it. Once you master that bike provided you don't trash it you can sell it for what you paid for it. Once a bike takes it's initial hit on depreciation they hold their value pretty well.

well i think I wont get that one now. and I was planning on getting a CBR 600rr, Yamaha yzf r6, or GSX-R 600 any recommendations on whats better that the other? I am aiming for a CBR but not sure yet

Bikes are funny beasts. You need to find one your most comfotlrtable on. The performance differences between them are negligable and only a pro can tell the differences.

Personally for a first bike I'd look at the ninja 500, suzukis gs500 and others in that class. It's your first bike and like I said earlier you can ride it a year or two and sell it for what you paid for it then you can get the rr etc

cbr is more comfortable for most... gsxr is better tech.

not that I'd recommend it, but the hayabusa was the most comfortable all around canyon carving/ street cruiser i ever owned.

I hear the GSX is good, I'm thinking of getting that myself.

after riding an r6 cbr600 and a gsxr600 i got the cbr
gsxr scared the hell out of me
r6 was just a stiff crap unbalanced ride
the 96 cbr600f3 was the best choice for me. smooth ride good power but not over powered like the gsxr plus it was only $2100 lol cant pass on that price

having a street bike is by preference only... i only like kawasakis... heck i've even converted 2 hardcore gsxr fans into kawi riders :) i find kawis more comfortable... at least the ones made up to a few years ago...
lowering the bike is mostly for looks and drag racing, but it does offer some comfort on the highway... most people do say it hurts the cornering, but my buddy could keep up with the rest of us with no problems on his lowered zx14 when we were riding on the mountains... and we were hauling tail the whole time...
if you have never rode a street bike, stay away from jetted, sprocketed bikes... my advice to you would be to start off with a stock 600 and add your own mods as your skills pick up...
r1s and r6s have more transmission problems than any other bike... I have to admit that the fastest 600 i've ever been on was an 08 gsxr, but my overall experience with that bike was moderate at best... easiest to handle was 09 cbr 1000. but neither can hold a candle to the overall ride quality of my 07 zzr. it's a sport touring bike with a supersport drivetrain. extremely reliable, very cheap and my full coverage on it is about $28 a month... if you try to put full coverage on a regular sportbike, get ready to spend $1000+ a year...

Hey man don't buy a lowered bike. You can read about the cons all across the internet. If it's your first bike I'd say get the Ninja 250 (although small it's a freaking blast to ride). But since you have history riding dirtbikes I'd say look into the Suzuki SV650 or the Yamaha FZ6. Those are great if you want a bike that has some decent get-up and isn't for total noobs.

I vote for a suzuki. Dont go gsxr at first, they're a lot faster and powerful than one would think. The sv650, I have heard, is a good beginner bike. I am looking into getting one soon, I personally love the look of a naked bike. And if you dont like the look of a naked bike I'm pretty sure theres a gsxr fairing kit you can put on the sv650.

Well in my opinion, i'd definatly go with at least a 600...especially if you have ridden bikes before and are a pretty fast learner. I just got a kawi zx6r last summer its my first bike and ya at first it was a little fast and a bit freaky with the leaning and all that compared to a dirt bike, but ounce you get used to it(took me about a week) then you will be more than happy you got a 600 rather than a tiny 250. and then a few months after riding the bike i loved it thought it was amazing then i got on a kawi 1000r and i didnt even wanna get back on my little 600.lol

My first street bike was a brand new 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 650r (sport touring bike). It is an awesome beginners bike. However I still have it and its 2011, kinda wish I would of just got an 04 or 05 supersport 600 of some kind instead for the same price :bangin:. All these beginner bikes are just that, for total noobs who only plan on owning them for a season or two, so if you think you can sell it off and buy a bigger one in a couple years go for it. If you think that you will own whatever bike you get for the next 3-4 years then get a true super sport and just take it easy at first.

I bought a brand new 2007 CBR600RR for my first bike. I grew up around bikes most of my life so I have had more experience than average so thats why I opted for the 600RR for the first bike. I did have a lot of friends who got 500s and the more touring style bikes and were selling them pretty quick to move up. Buy used, get quality gear and RESPECT the power of the bike. The minute you take it for advantage, you will be laying on the side of the road with a thrashed bike and maybe even a thrashed body. My best advice to you is buy whatever you want but always respect the bike! Those things are fun as hell but they can become a missle on two wheels if you drive like an idiot.
