Default Need ideas for a DD to buy

Hey guys, I've started looking (maybe a few weeks ago) for something with a bit better gas mileage to have as my everyday driver (a lot better, actually)

I was just wondering if anyone could help expand my knowledge a bit of what I'm looking for, via ideas

Probably looking for a 4 cylinder, as my goal mpg is at least 28 mpg.
My absolute price limit is $5,000, I'd prefer to spend 3,000-4,500 but whatever.
Has to have a bit of zip to it, I got in a civic and felt I could beat it to 20 mph off the line if I were running. Also can't look hideous like a Ford Taurus.

What I've currently seen are:
97+ Honda Prelude
1998-2002 Honda Accord-Coupe
1999+ Toyota Celica

I've found probably 6 preludes and loved all of them, 2 of them were too riced out for me, one was boosted so hard that I didn't want to risk it, and the other three buyers all flaked on me before we went to the bank

Got no ideas on anything else in my price range really, help!

Ack, I don't really think they have the ZIP I'm looking for, but I KNOW they've got the mileage,

There's actually one for sale at the local lemon lot. I guess I'll go give it a shot along with the integra sitting up there, even though it's not too much of a looker, just for you.

If only I could find a nice last year Del Sol

I got pretty big into imports and had several before my cherokee. Ive seen the ins and outs of the big 3(Honda, Toyota, and Nissan) and here where they lie:

1.Honda-Great gas mileage, very reliable, pretty easy to work on
2.Toyota-Great gas mileage, extremely reliable, can be a pain in the *** to work on
3.Nissan-Great gas mileage, extremely reliable, extremely easy to work on

Toyota Corolla.
Ford Taurus.
Nissan Altima.

There are a billion of them out there. Tauruses ESPECIALLY! Cheap parts, easy to work on, some what comfortable.. Either corolla or taurus.

PS... people pretty much GIVE tauruses away.. at least up here they do.. lol

Going to Dallas tomorrow to look up on 4 more preludes, 3 celicas, a million talon/altima/accords.

I swear I'm coming back with something. Four hour drive to check out some rides took me weeks to be able to convince myself (and my co-pilot) to do

Well im sure you've found something by now. But if not, you obviously aren't concerned about seating, so why not get an early 90's MR2?

i replaced my xj with a ford ranger to drive daily. i no longer deal with death wobble (which im working on fixing) but my ranger gets about 25 mpg on the highway which beats the heck out of the 13 mpg that my xj got and id imagine zjs aren't that much better. id recommend a ranger to anyone plus its really nice to have a truck bed.

Ah, my dad used to have a red 2000 3.0 Ranger. Got pretty nice mileage for a v6 truck by every means. I even like the looks even though the models I could afford had extremely dated interiors.

I wound up picking up a 99 Prelude yesterday from a guy who spoke strictly Spanish with his brother translating. It's gorgeous even with the work she needs. Got 32 mpg on the way home with a broken speedometer and fuel gauge stuck on full which left me stranded for half an hour. <3

Also, man00xj, I looked at an mr2 from the SAME guy yesterday, it had way too much work done to it, including a duct-taped CAI. Had lots of duct-tape, even for the speaker wires that were ran across the roof. I didn't want to mess with someone else's handiwork, especially not of that quality. It sure could fly down the road, though.

you should look for a late 80s early 90s bmw 3 series. my 91 318 gets 28 in town and is a blast to drive. plus, it was 1250 bucks. its a beautiful car too.

you can actually look at any bmw 3 series 318 as they are all 1.8l 4 cylinders. get a 5 speed though. i think in your price range you can find from 97 being the top of the price range and then the 85 being hte 800 dollar cars which get the 30 plus but only have 90 hp.

I drive a 98 accord coupe as my dd and love it. I get about 25 in the city and 30 or so on the highway.

X2 on that, i just got a 99 2.5 5-speed for $400 bucks! All it needed was a timing belt now it runs fantastic and its the Sport model, got all the options to. Besides even though its a 4 Banger the ranger hauls alot supprisingly, i know because ive filled the bed with gravel and it never missed a beat driving it around like that
