We have two Scout IIs, both pretty much rust buckets. However, one does run. The first is a '72 with a 345ci V8-auto-4wd, and the other is a '77 (the one that runs) with Nissan SD633 diesel (non-turbo)-auto-2wd. Trying to get rid of the diesel and might eventually turn the '72 into a buggy. The '72 has a spring over lift also.

Nice Rallye. If it isn't all rusty they are great rigs. I had a '78 with a 345 and 4 spd. I would not do a 4" kit. Cut and turn the knuckles, do a shackle reversal, and spring over for 35s with 4.11 or 4.56 gears. Just about perfect for those rigs.
Also look into a Pertronics ignition conversion or an Autolite electronic distributor. Does it have the auto or manual? Did you get lucky enough to have the Dana 300 tcase? If so, do a Tera Low kit in it.
Namaste,
Allen

Scouts are definitely badass. I had a '76, it cooked the motor (spun a few cam bearings) the day I bought it, but it still got me home 120mi like that. And it would still fire up and get me to work and back through that winter in 4x4. I ended up with a 392 short block ($400 from Fliteline) and the old 345 heads. That combo gives you about 10:1 compression because the 345 head chambers are small. Loved to cruise around with the top off, but it was too much money for me to use as a daily at the time so I sold it and bought a Royal Enfield.
They are making aluminum 4bbl intakes, EFI kits, and DUI has an all-in-one HEI style distributor for them (I have no experience with any of that stuff though). Check out http://www.superscoutspecialists.com/store/, those guys hooked me up with everything I needed.
P.S. The guy I bought my XJ from in UT has an SSII Scout. Pretty rough basket case, but would be a great project.
