Ls swaping 83 c10 questions
 

Alright I have just recieved a 1999 GMC Sierra 4x4 with a 5.3l Ls. I was wondering if anyone on here might know anything about what all I need to take from the donor truck to swap it in my 83 GMC c10. I am not going to be using the tranny from the donor as I want to keep the 83 2wd. I will probably still pull it and see if I can swap someone for a good 2wd 4l60e. I know this is the Cherokeeforum I dont need a reminder I just figure there might be a few GM gurus on here that might could help or steer me in the right direction for help. Are there any good forums to get further info from? I have the whole truck and plan to take what I need and part the rest and what I cant part scrap it. Thanks for any and all help.

about the only thing you'll need to source is a fuel system and motor mounts. I'd guess you can reuse the exhaust manifolds and simply move the trans xmember and drill new holes. you might even get away with reusing the factory lm7 air intake setup and radiator, that kind of stuff will be a matter of fitment. you'll need someone to modify the lm7 engine harness and remove vats from the ls ecu. I'd check ls1tech for more answers. if you have specific questions regarding a 68-72 a body, 3rd gen f body or foxbody lsx swap I can help as I have personal experience with such.

Yea the fuel system I will have to figure out I believe I read about using an 87 tank and sending unit. The motor mounts I think I am going to use are Dirty Dingo they give some front to back adjust ability. As far as manifolds I am going to use I think 99-02 f body stock ones. I have a buddy that should have two sets. Thanks man I will check out the Ls1tech forum. I have done some research and just cant find a direct answer to what should I take from my donor truck. So it sounds like I just need to take the motor wiring harness ecu air intake system and radiator. Might see if the rear end will fit in the 83 cause the one in the 99 is posi. Lol I have two a 98 and a 96. The 98 hates me now that I dont drive it as my daily since the 96 took over. We had some cold weather a few weeks back and the radiator busted. I hope they will make it through me doing the motor swap without any sacrificial nuns or orphans lol.

I believe you could reuse your tank and sending unit. use an external pump. does the 83 have steel 3/8 lines going to the engine bay already? the trucks regulator is on the rail.


on the 72 el camino we used a bosch 044 pump, the factory tank/sending unit, and truck intake.

just get you a 87-91 burb/blazer tank,and mount it in the rear(you have to remove the spare tire brace(bottom,and move the rearmost brace,as well as notching the brace to adapt the blazer tank,not hard at all,then all you will need is a efi 87-91 sending unit,extend your fuel lines,---DONE.

Wouldn't I be able to use a stock 87 tank and sending unit and have it mounted in the same place the tank is now? I am trying to go simple and stock as possible.
