Default Jeep J10 Honcho laredo wont go into 2wd

ok so like the title says its an 84 jeep j10 honcho laredo and it is in 4wd now but when i go to put it in 2wd there is this sucking type sound coming from behind the button slide thing. Im not really familiar with these trucks or really jeeps in general...anyone have any idea what it is and how to fix it? i was thinking a vac. leak but i tried to research it and couldnt find anything that helped so i figured maybe someone here could help out.
thx,
AJ

Not to sure on the J10's, but I would see if there is a vac hose on the front axle or the Tcase that is disconnected. That would be your best bet.

EDIT: Look on both axles.

I'd start where you hear the vacuum leak... repair that try again.

Is the hose split? Put eyes on it and see what the issue is.

Yeah, do what ya gotta do to eliminate/minimulize the leak to get it to shift back to 2wd.

once it shifts will it stay in 2wd or does it need a constant suction?
