Default Jeep J10 Honcho

A neighbor of mine has a 1981 Jeep J10 Honcho. It's been sitting in their driveway since 1985. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet or talk to the guy who owns it. I'll post pics when I can. I'm just thinking I might want to buy and restore it someday. What do you guys think?

Buy it, Build it, Wheel it.

Honcho's are sweet and there is also a few rare packages for them out there also. Have some value. Levis Edition comes to mind..

I can't find anything about them. It could be a J20. What are the front and rear axles? Engine? Tell me what you know.

Ooh, d44 and d60? good enough for me. I'm thinking it's a 360. According to wikipedia the 401 was available up until 1979.

There is several axle combos based on years.

I want to say most Pre-78's had the D44 front and AMC20 rear.

Unless they were a J20 than a possible D60 rear.

It looks exactly like this:
Everything except the lights, I can't remember if it has those.
I'm pretty sure it's an '81 J10.
Edit: yeah not exactly... It's a step side...

I'd be on it like a fat dude on a porkchop....

Cool old iron is getting too hard to find, unless you live in the southwest.

j20s had HD dana 44 front, and dana 60 rear, but didnt come in Honchos, and were only long beds, so thats a j10 which has a WT amc 20 rear and dana 44 front, Im pretty sure its a v8 since its a honcho, so it would be a 360, they stopped 401s in 78, if auto its a tf727, if its a standard t178, (or t176 if 6cyl) should have a np208 tcase(very nice), if not a np219, Honchos are very cool, I say get it, I had an 82 j10 Laredo, one of the best trucks i ever had, sure do miss it, 81 was also the first year they made them without a overhead brow over the windshield, let me know if you need any more info, i know alot about fsjs,

I don't think I'll be buying it anytime soon, I'm just starting on my Xj . Yeah, that was kind of a dumb question to start with. I'm just really interested in it. Thanks for all the input. I think I'll dive over and take a couple pics to post tonight.

It's not in as good condition as I remember. Funny how that works.
You can see paw prints on the hood from their dogs. I'm thinking the dent in the roof could be from the husky looking one they have. I took these from over a fence, not a difficult thing to do when you're 6'6" tall.
