Grandma's Ranch Car... 68 Commander
My Grandmother, even though she was a Rancher, she had class. Wanting something that would go off road yet have class and ride good like a (Sunday go to town car) car she bought this 68 Jeepster Commander brand new. My Uncle Dave ended up getting the honor of restoring this classic Jeep. He did one hell of a job! These are images from when he was just about done with it. About the only things still missing appears to be the radio and the "continental" spare tire carrier for the back. It is so cool to have these memories restored for us all as a family. Just fantastic to see this on the road again!
And Aunt Betty and Uncle Dave... What a good looking couple you two make! It looks fantastic! Thank you for allowing me to share this restore with my Jeep friends here!

Right on! Wow! you are an elder to be respected then! I am 12 years behind you at 56 Sir! lol
Pretty cool right?
Thank you for that ever so important first comment/reply my friend.
My cousin Bob and I got that high centered one time on some rocks. It took us almost the whole day with a rock hammer and a shovel my Grandmother just happened to have in the rig to knock enough loose to give it enough clearance to get off those rocks. We just barely got back to the ranch in time for dinner or we would not have got any... I was 12 and Bob was 13 and a half. And yes I was driving when it happened. Through the whole ordeal all Bob cared about was getting dinner. lol
I miss him...

I remember when they changed the body style from the CJ5 front to that one. CJ5 front clip would still bolt on and was a popular mod for those who didn't like staring at all that real estate in front of the windshield. Also for all you Jeep historians, the first D35 rear end I saw was in one of those.

Just like Stock XJ's, it did very well despite it's low clearance.

It took washboard roads at 65 real nice. Grandma did not drive "careful". lol
She was bailing that rig off across the desert one time driving right over 6 foot greasewood bushes explaining that once in awhile the underside needs to be cleaned off and polished. lol

It was a cattle and horse ranch... Just try to pamper us as we are breaking the ice in water troughs at 5:00 AM in the winter during Christmas vacation. We earned that respect to to be free. Grandma understood this.
I did the same with my own and they turned out great...
