visually I really like it, I was considering one before I got the XJ.. but for wheeling.. IDK.. it stands pretty low. If you have the option, get the 2 door one,,

yeah i think im starting to lean to the xj. its cheaper, more part availability, sounds to be just as reliable, more hp, a fountain of knowledge on the net ( i cant find hardly anything on monteros) and its shorter but sits higher. my only problem is i kinda want something thats a lil different, not something that i can find four more on the trail ahead of me ya know? and im not sayin xjs in particular but jeeps and toyotas in general

well you wont find 4 more monteros ahead of you bc they will probably be stock somewhere.. LOL, all kidding aside.. XJ are more than capable on trails. also the montero is not as flexible.. stock the XJ has almost doble the ground clearance than the montero...

DONT DO IT MAN!!!! Get the xj they are way cooler.....lol monteros are top heavy youl roll it way before you roll an xj not to mention they could barly pull them selvs off the dealer lot when they where new (you will regret it) thats my two bits

I hear ya. Gen1 Monteros are very cool looking trucks. I have to say it's my favorite by far, especially because they aren't around every corner. I had a silver '90 and a white '91.

That's a funny question...asking a bunch of folks on a Jeep Cherokee site which they would pick over a Montero, or an XJ?? I'm going to stay with the XJ for the win Bob!! LOL!! Sorry, I imagine that we would be a touch biased over here!! Get the XJ, and never look back!!

I think he was just asking how they would compare, price, off-road,on road, etc. Not if you like or would want an xj or this more. Either way, that truck looks like a taller xj.
