The F150 street truck build

Well i have had this truck for a few months now. I traded my XJ for it actually. I have a decent plan for this truck and will be getting most of the parts in the next few weeks. Its a 1985 F-150 4x4 with a D44(TTB) axle front, and a Ford 9" rear, has a 351w that is mildly built, as well as a mild built C6 auto. As it sits the truck has 69k miles on it. It currently is in Primer, and is rot free, just has surface rust from sitting in primer for years.

I dont plan on offroading this truck at all or using the 4wd. I will be picking up an 1984 parts truck this weekend that is 2wd and doesnt run(302, auto). So i have been debating converting my running single cab short bed to 2wd and then parting out the rest of the truck and keeping what i need/want.

Current plan for my truck

Edlebrock Performer Intake
New 750cfm carb
Lunati cam kit(more aggressive than current)
Hooker headers
Single chamber mufflers
GT40P Heads
Lunati Valve springs and retainers
Trick-Flow 1.6 ratio roller rockers
TCI "Midnight Special" torque converter(2800rpm stall)
MSD 6AL box
3/4 drop(if converted to 2wd)
2/2 drop(if staying 4wd)
4.11 Gear(ford 9")
Full spool
Chrome-alloy axle shafts
Mickey Thompson ET street rear tires(295/65/15)
Cooper Starfire front tires(235/75/15,stock tire size)
Crager Delux 69 series wheels(15x7 front,15x10 rear)

I will be removing the front driveshaft if i stay 4wd, since converting is an option but a bigger pain in the ass to do(front swing arms and I beams, as well as the trans)

I do have the paint to paint the truck but that is bottom of the list as far as stuff since it isnt effecting the performance. The paint color is pictured below.

The link ^ is a video of the truck at idle currently with the existing dual exhaust.

I will be replacing the carb with a 1405 Edlebrock that is jetted a bit bigger, putting a Lokar Kickdown cable and a few other minor things with in the net week or so. I will be converting the 1405 to electric choke as well.

I like junk too!

FORD!? I had a F-350 4x4 rust bucket for a while, it had a 460 in it with a wooden bed. Would put a smile on anyone that rode shotgun!

9" axle? I thought they stopped making them in 1979.

Willys55 09-06-2016 05:29 PM

nope! the 8.8 started in 83, but you could still get the 9" as an option.

Just won these at the auction house a bit north of me.

They are a 15x10 Fenton Mag wheel from the 60's. They need to be media blasted and polished, oh and the best part is the price i won them for... $23.

Very nice Mr. Pink

Subb'd.... one of my favorite body styles of ford. My grandfather and uncle had one. I think theirs was an '83.

XJwonders 09-07-2016 08:40 PM

Had a 83 f250 and 85 f150. I preferred the 83

Suspension setups were 100% different with the F250's being leaf all around and the F100/150 being coil front and leaf rear like the XJ but with a frame. I will be ordering almost $2200 in stuff in a few weeks.

Subbed. I've always loved the old fords. Just got myself a 77 a few months ago. Can't wait to see the build! I never new there was an "other vehicle" category on this forum. Lol. May have to start a build thread for my own truck.

your truck is in much better shape than mine lol

Picked up the pair of wheels today, they are a 5x4.5 and 5x5 bolt pattern(uni-lug) and are a 15x11. I will actually be selling these to fund the wheels for my truck. i would run these but it requires new axle shafts in 5x4.5 or 5x5 and having the drums drilled to the pattern. $400 worth of stuff when i can get the right patterened wheels for $250 in the style that i want. So i will be selling these to a friend from WA for his Falcon Gasser build for $250+ shipping. oh and the picture from today is 20 min with a fine steel wool and soapy warm water.

That's a great lookin' truck man. I'm more partial to GM and Dodge for newer trucks, but I do love the old Fords. Well... any old truck for that matter. They were just more of a "truck" back then versus these cushy riding cars with beds that they are nowadays.

Lookin' good man! I'm no stranger to the uni-lug. I had a set of Western Bullet uni-lugs on my Nova when I got it. Had to use the long shank lug nuts with washers. It was definitely a thing to get used to. Ended up getting rid of them in lieu of the factory steelies and dog-dish covers for that original look. I sure do miss that car.
