Default EFI to carbeurated 5.0

Been working on a 302 to go in a 65 stang. Found the motor but it's a fuel injected 5.0, we don't have the funds nore the want to switch over an EFI engine into this car, but we do have a carbeurated intake from a previous 302 that we want to use. We know it will work if we use the other heads as well, however this 302 was a rolling motor and we've like to keep the heads that are on it now. So my question is will the intake work with the original heads? The intake is from a 68 (we think) 302 and the block and heads we're wanting to put it on are from a 90's model grand marquis (it may be late 80s). It "looks" like it will fit but we've heard from a couple of different people that it will have steaming problems. Any help is appreciated! thanks!

you'll have no issue with converting over to carbureted. The intake should be the same, but you have to change out the distributor to an HO distributor. The modern 5.0 has a 351W firing order rather than the older 302 firing order. Roller cams need a specific gear for the distributor as well.

Thanks! Thats the most useful information I've got so far, even asking on mustang forums.

be certain the fuel injected engine is a roller motor, which typically only came in mustangs (and a few other cars), if the engine is out of anything else its quite possible it isnt a roller cam motor and things will be quite different. however if it is a roller cam HO motor...

you can get an 85 mustang 302/5 speed distributor from most parts stores if you dont have a distributor to use. it will be the right one for the roller cam.

the intake should match up with the heads with no real problems

one thing to think about is what fuel pump your going to use. an electric fuel pump makes things simple but if you want mechanical its going to take some extra parts and work

Engine is complete and ready to drop in, ended up just buying a new edelbrock intake and carb. spent about a grand in replacing everything on it except for basically the heads, inners of the engine, and the valve covers. Will get a picture of it up when I get my phone fixed
