Not bad. Slap some soft eights with m/t's on her. A couple inch lift and you'll have one decent rig.

Also with low range, hill decent control and brake control, 8.4" of ground clearance, and full skids, I would take one as a DD!
I wonder if more aftermarket support will come up for them??

Wow, I'm very impressed. Curious to see what the aftermarket will have to offer. Definitely gonna swing by the dealer when their out.

Not bad, now if it only had a 4.0 in it.

Speaking of a Compass earning its trail rated badge, I came across this video, and though it was pretty neat.

If it didn't disappoint me so much earlier in its production i think i'd buy one myself. Essentially a car with a Jeep's face, underpowered compared to the XJ. Jeep is taking this failed concept and making it usable for the average Jeep owner, not just college kids who want a jeep, but don't wanna take the time to baby an older one.

At first blush I thought that was a silly statement as the Compass must get better mileage than the XJ. Then I looked at the specs:

2011 Compass
3250#
165 ftlb @ 4400 rpm
172 hp
27 mpg

2001 Cherokee
3150#
225 ftlb @ 3000 rpm
190 hp
21 mpg

No contest. The Compass will drive like a pig. That lack of performance won't be worth the 6mpg hwy.

IFS off-road is no good. If left stock, only time will tell if they last. Personally I'd never own one. More I see of IFS the less I like. On road it's fine. Off-road and for lifting, it was a bad idea.

Not in all cases. Look at the H1s, extremly capable and run IFS. If done right IFS can be nearly as capable as SAs.

As soon as jeep gave up on full straight axle suspension I lost my liking to them. All the stuff wj and older is where I stopped liking them. Only one left is the wrangler and I dont like them in the least. I'll get a samurai first.
