With the proper gearing and some crawler gears in the TC, yes to all of the above.
The four poppers will also do well with stock gearing and a manual trans. The stock gearing for said combo may also have a 4.10 running gears from the factory.

I've got a yj w/ 4cyl/5spd w/ 32's and I have not had it offroad... but it's hard to keep it going down the road. 5th is useless... Low range may be a different story.

I've seen 4cyls offroad really well. Most of them had a gear change.

i think you'll be surprised what those 4 bangers could do with the right gears, half the lifted wronglers you see driving around are 4 bangers

My friend had a 94 yj 4 cy 4.11 gears w/33 super swampers. It was gutless on the hwy he never did get to 5th. On the trails it wasn't so bad as your mostly in 4 low all the time then it was okay. And as with most jeeps its sucks on gas, but isn't that one of the main reasons WE buy a jeep...

in low gear as long as its standard shift you should do ok but regering if you intend to also drive on highway

My old YJ was a 4 pooper with 33" Mickey Thompson Baja Claws. Offroad, it did freakin' work. And yeah, the 4 poopers came with 4:10 gears from the factory, however, like others have said, 5th was useless on the highway.

The weak link in the 4 cylinders is the AX-5 tranny. I hate it I hate it I hate it I hate it I HATE IT!! I had to rebuild mine, what a freaking pain!

I used to have a '93 YJ with the AMC 2.5 and it was way more powerful than I ever expected from a 4 banger. I definitely think you could push those tires with it. You may need to regear if you are running at highway speed, but other than that, you'll be set. This thread really makes me wish I still had my YJ because I really miss it.

there's only so much that 4 angry hamsters can do. I'd rather have 6 angry guinea pigs. with 31s, 3.55s and my 4.0 I can run to and past any speed limit with ease. One of my buddies had a 4cyl TJ with 4.10s and 33s and he could barely get it above 75.
