Default To buy or not to buy??

I have a friend with a wrecked Yamaha Seca II motorcycle. He bought it for 1400 wrecked it and is selling it for 400$ I really dont know much about the bike or the condition but for sure it will need a new front fork and all of the plastics will need repaired/replaced. He also thinks that the clutch might be going bad. Does anyone know if this is a good deal or not. I wish I had pics but I am not that serious about it because I am pretty low on dough right now but just wondering what you guys think.

not worth it.. parts are harder and harder to find for them and you will have a lot more into it then it will ever be worth.

front forks arent a biggie, but the plastics can get EXPENSIVE.
clutch will be easy, and you could put something nicer in....
for $400, and without seeing it (post some pics geez) id say if you have the time to put in it, go for it.

Well I dont know if I have the money. I am going to see if he might take less or if he wants to trade for some computer gear I have. He is graduating from FSU here at the end of the summer and he will probably have to get rid of it. I do have the time to put into it and I would probably just repair the plastics if I can. I wish I had pics but I almost dont want to ask him because I dont think I have the money to cover it right now.

No shame in talking to your friend about it even if you are a bit low on dough. It's only 400$, he might just let you have it until you can pay up, since he apparently will not even have room for it.

Yeah you are right. There are some other logistics as well but I will see about it.

They call them "basket cases" for a reason. Save up some money and buy a turn key bike, you'll be way ahead in the long run.

naked bikes are all the rage right now so just ditch the plastics, throw on a round headlight, get some forks of ebay for $100, clutches are not hard on bikes and prob just needs to be adjusted anyway, maybe estimate another $200 for random parts and you will have one fun bike!
Or part it out on ebay and turn some profit if you have the time/resources

I talked to my friend and he said that he has to get rid of it by early august. I am going up to see him this month and I am going to look at the bike. If he cant get rid of it I will throw him an offer. Hopefully I will have the money by then.
