Best oil?

My wife's car is a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica (thus why it's in the other car section) with about 100k on the clock, after reading a lot about oil in another thread on here it's got me curious about what the best oil for her car would be. Should I just stick with rotella T6 for her car as well or get something a little more refined for her car?

I would stick with the Rotella. Not gonna get much better than that.

My family has been using Mobil 1 synthetic for years with really good results. If the motor in that car is loose at all, you can use the Mobil 1 High Mileage version, which has more zinc in it. Keep in mind, however, that high zinc oils kill catalytic converters faster.

All my jeeps use Castrol high mileage synthetic 5w-30. Have never had an issue. Matter of fact my dad has a 06 Silver Pacifica and i use Castrol high mileage synthetic, it has 131k miles on it now.

Yeah I was thinking of doing a synthetic or a blended.

oil is oil. use the correct weight and change it often. done.

For what it's worth, Blackstone put out an article last year that says basically the same thing.

rotella makes a synthetic version. we use that and royal purple synthetic in all our work vehicles.

just don't use any department store or cheap auto store house brand. be sure to use a name brand if you are going the cheap route.

i use whatever is on sale at crappy tire in my jeeps.

Since the very first oil change in our 2001 XJ, I've used Castrol 10W30, changing the oil and filter every 3,000 miles. I also use Purolator PureOne filters.

After lifting the XJ, I switched to a quality synthetic, high mileage oil. Within 500 miles, oil leaks developed. All the genuine mechanics in my Jeep clubs told me that switching to a synthetic oil on a higher mileage engine usually will usually cause any potential leak areas to start leaking.

Ended up changing the Rear Main Seal, Oil Pan Gasket, and the Valve Cover Gasket (photos in my build thread). The inside of the engine was pretty clean, especially for a Jeep with allot of miles on it. I changed the oil again, and went back to the Castrol 10W30 conventional oil.

We had just checked the cylinder compression shortly beforehand and with about 130,000 miles on the engine it still tested to within 1 or 2 PSI of brand new levels on every cylinder- all from running Castrol 10W30 and changing the oil every 3,000 miles.

If you start using a synthetic, be aware that it could "expose" any potential leaks, requiring gasket and seal changes.

In our F-150 (2013 5 liter, 4x4, towing package), we have had the oil changed by the dealer up until last week when it finally went out from under warranty. Ford uses a synthetic blend so that's what I stuck with when I started changing the oil.

SOOOOO true synthetic has the potential to break through all the gunk and deposits (that usually help clog any leaks). If you have been using synthetic then its fine, but if you haven't and suddenly decide to make the switch then some spots in the driveway might pop up lol.

I own a jeep, spots in the driveway is nothing new lol. And yeah I've heard the switch between conv. and synth oil can cause leaks, unfortunately I have no idea what's been going into it for the last 3 years. Pretty sure she has been going to Pennzoil each time, and I've heard bad things about them, like using mostly reused, not to be confused with recycled, oil when doing oil changes.

I would use Mobil 1 synthetic its a vary good oil you can get it almost any where and walmart has a good price on it . I used Mobil 1 synthetic on all my cars even the ones that had 100,000 miles or more . my xj has 150,00 on it and my other car has about 200,000 or more they both use 10w40 Mobil 1 synthetic High Mileage and no leaks . the best thing you can do is try a oil and see if the car likes it , no leaks and doesn't burn it .

When it comes to oil, everyone has an opinion based on experience. For me, Castrol 10W-30 non-synthetic has been my go to for several years. I dare say 20W-50 was my normal summer oil for the first 10 years we had the Cherokee. Wife's is a '99 with 254K miles and running strong. No leaks, no burning oil, 19 mpg. She is a member of the family at this point.


My '04 WJ has 176K miles and runs great on Castrol 10W-30 synthetic blend. Our '06 Chrysler Pacifica just turned 200K miles with the same oil. Both of these cars began life with Mobil 1 from the shop my dad used. The last several years have been Castrol.


I have had 3 other cars all cross the 225K mile mark on standard Castrol over the last 10 years. All of them were running great when they met their end. Some were hit, some rusted, but motor issues were never a problem.

The myth of full syn oil causing leaks is BS! Get that crap out of your head.
If you already have a leak, large or small, funn syn will make it more pronounced. The reason why is.. the molecules are equal size. Whereas, dino/conventional oil not.
Pennzoil plat/ultra is good, the rest of their stuff is garbage.

I agree with this. Some may be better than others in certain areas. Overall, that all will do their job if you do yours.
