Aztek problem
Hey guys my girlfriens 2001 pontiac is now acting up. When I put it in any gear it just shakes and if I drive it it shakes but when in park its fine. IM thinking something with the tranny but I dont really know much about them. I thought just the tranny mount but I havent looked its to dark out now. But I would think if it was the mount it would be ok untill I started driving. Any thoughts or ideas would be great. Thanks

I was thinking misfire as well, but as it only does it in gear or driving I am thinking check all your mounts, and has it just started doing this out of the blue or was there anything that happened prior to it, either hitting something, any kind of work done on it, or any sort of acting up, slight shacking or vibrations, or even new noises prior to this happening?? Even though you don't have a CEL take it by Autozone or some such store and have them hook up the scanner... I was looking on a few other sites for any issues with the Aztek shaking and one guy said he took his in and was told that it said the TPS sensor and torque converter.. so something you might could look into if you have an autoparts store that will run a scanner near you...
Or.... you could get rid of it and get her a Cherokee!!! LOL...

ok so today I checked it all out. I have good spark to the cylinder and I put in a new plug just because. But little has changed. I reset the computer and got the same code. What about a fuel pressure reg. Would that help any?

if its easy, move that coil to another cylinder and see if the misfire follows it. if it does you know its the coil. don't let it go too long though. raw fuel will cause a cat. converter to overheat and possibly melt.

We arent driving it at all just put to the parts store to get the CEL read. The coil looks fine and when I pulled the wire off it and turned it over I was getting REALLY good spark off it and at the end of the wire. I think im ganna try the fuel pressure reg. I just hope it works. lol

Ok so no luck yet. I changed the fuel pressure reg. and cleaned the TB. I was talking with my neighbor and he had the same problem and he said he just use a can of carb cleaner in the TB while it was running and kept it at like 2000RPMs so I tried that and it ran alot better and the CEL came off but then after running for awhile it came back on and im back to square one.Its weird after I hooked up the air tube back on is when it came back on. IM ganna try moving the coil over it just got late. Anyone have any other ideas for me? Its still reading Cyinder 1 missfire.

o2 sensor should not cause a misfire. it will generally affect the engine as a whole, not just one cylinder. same thing on the fuel pressure regulator.
does it have individual coils or a coil pack with plug wires? if possible did you move the coil like i suggested? another thing you can try is to get a mechanics stethoscope and try and listen to the injectors. after that i would check the compression in that cylinder make sure its good. you could also do a leak down test to make sure you don't have a blown head gasket or burned valve. if you have a cooling system pressure tester, put pressure on it and leave it for 1/2-1 hour to see if it holds.
keep us posted.
