axle question?

axle question?
My brother owns a 97 tj wrangler. he snaped his axle shaft he was wondering if he could swap it out with a yj axle shaft? can this be done or would it be better to buy new ones.

I dont think so I beleive tjs and xjs share the front axle on later years so I think if he could find an xj with the same axles he'd be ok.not 100 % sure.
