Ok. I work for a Toyota dealership. Quick Lube tech. So I work on cars...but simple stuff. We got in a mk3 body style Jetta. This is something we got in on trade...and I may want to buy the car. Now the problem is it won't start. Car turns on...lights radio ect. But when you turn the key you get nothing. Sort of like a 5 speed car when you dont push the clutch in. This is a 5 speed but I did push the clutch in. I think its something with the alarm. Has to do with the immobilizer I'm thinking. It's not letting the car start. I did get it started but nothing I did worked. I just think after some time it decided to crank over. Runs awesome. But won't start everytime. Anyone have any ideas? Or should I just not consider buying the car.....I'm border line here. If its an easy fix ill of course buy it. But if its not....then pass on it. Wait for something else to come. What do you guys think?

Is it an aftermarket alarm? Because they are crap, I'd remove it.

Mk3 jettas are pretty much one of the worst cars when it comes to electrical. I wouldn't bother.

Not aftermarket. Factory. I believe I read its based off of mercedes some what. Just what I read though. But I agree with not bothering. After reading up on these I feel its worthless for me to buy it. Seems like they have lots of electrical issues. Thanks for the input. Any more info would help. Part of me thinks if I can get it cheap enough it may be worth fixing. Paints near perfect. Tires are good. Breaks seem ok but a little rusted after sitting. Been sitting at our lot for over two weeks since they cannot get it to start and drive. They don't want to pay to tow it to auction either it seems like. Which tells me they may let it go cheap. But I am leaning toward "I don't want to deal with it". Haha.
